Gladys Iwaleinani “Eva” De Coito, 81, of Hilo died April 4 at Hilo Benioff Medical Center, she was an accountant, worked at Hawaii Tribune-Herald, and Y’s Lunch Okazuya and was a member of Piihonua Kumiai and parent volunteer for the Lincoln Wreckers Baseball Association, homemaker and family matriarch. Born in Manaoag, Pangasinan, Philippines, he was a kitchen utility worker for Mauna Lani, Auberge Resorts Collection and Fairmont Orchid Hawaii, former housekeeper for Four Seasons Resort Hualalai, former international maritime professor for a college in Dagupan, Philippines, and member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Keaau and St. Theresa Catholic Church in Mountain View. Clyde Kiyomi Matsunaga, 82 of Hilo, died peacefully surrounded by family and friends on January 15, 2025. Born in Hilo, he was a civil engineer with Imata and Associates and a graduate of Hilo High School (Class of 1960), and UH Manoa, College of Engineering. He is survived by his children, Robin Valencia (Sean) of Hilo, and Anne Matsunaga of Hilo; children of his longtime companion, Janice Mahuna (deceased); Van Mahuna, Jr. of Kamuela and Shellbi Mahuna of Hilo; brother, Melvin Matsunaga (Lois Nishida) of Hilo; and sister Elaine Oba (Harold) of Hilo; grandchildren, Aiden and Dylan Valencia of Hilo; Auli`i Mahuna of Kamuela, Makana Mahuna of Kamuela, Shawno Auwae of California, and Iliana Stover (Tyler) of Arizona; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
