The Big Island Interscholastic Federation (BIIF) released its All-League teams for boys basketball for the 2024-25 season, highlighting some of the top players for their superb play. See the paper Saturday to read the selections from the girls teams.
DII
Kohala’s Isaac Salvador-Libron highlighted the boys DII first team after being named BIIF DII Player of the Year. In conference and postseason play combined, Salvador-Libron averaged 13.3 points per game.
Primarily playing the point guard position, the senior was known for his hustle and grit on the court — constantly doing the little things to help the Cowboys win. He was also the team’s table setter on offense.
Salvador-Libron helped propel the black and gold with a 19-8 overall record, a fourth consecutive BIIF DII title and a state semifinal appearance. He scored double digits 11 times throughout the season, including a season-high 21 points against state champion Seabury Hall in the state semifinals.
Teammate Jayden Hook also made the first team after leading the Cowboys in scoring at 14 points per game. Scoring 10-or-more points 17 times, the senior had a season-high of 23 points against Hawaii Baptist on Dec. 5, 2024.
Kohala coach Kiehi Kapeliela was named DII Coach of the Year.
Hawaii Prep’s Vander Eberhard was also named to the DII first team, averaging 16 points per game as a center in Ka Makani’s state-championship-berth season. Eberhard scored a season-high 26 points twice in 2024-25 — once against Honoka‘a on Jan. 13 and the other on Kamehameha-Hawaii on Dec. 28, 2024.
The sophomore’s presence inside helped Ka Makani have its best season in over a decade, making the DII state title game for the first time since 2014. HPA lost to Seabury in the final game.
Junior Kyran Canete of Pahoa, who was the top scorer in the state this season, was also named to the first team. Canete scored 416 points across the season (27.7 points per game), which was the most in Division I and II by a mile. He scored over 30 points six times, including a season-high of 37 points against Christian Liberty Academy on Jan. 28.
Honoka‘a junior Kukia Tagabi was additionally named to the first team after averaging 26.3 points per game in island play, scoring a season-high of 37 points against Pahoa on Dec. 9, 2024. He scored double digits in every game en route to the Dragons’ 12-2 overall record. Honoka‘a fell in the BIIF DII semifinals to Kohala on Feb. 10.
Rounding out the DII first team was Ka‘u freshman, who averaged an impressive 19.8 points per game in his debut BIIF season.
HPA’s Cam Root, Micah Yamasaki and Kingdon Simmons, Honoka‘a’s David Aiona and Kohala’s Layden Kauka were named to the BIIF DII second team.
DI
Kiai Yasso of KSH was named BIIF DI player of the year after a strong senior season, averaging nearly 17 points per game to lead the Warriors in 2024-25. Yasso scored in double figures 19 times, including a season-high 28 points against Pahoa on Dec. 14, 2024.
Warriors coach Mike Scanlan was named the BIIF DI Coach of the Year after leading his team to a 20-5 overall record (15-1 BIIF) and BIIF title over Konawaena. KSH fell to Punahou in the first round of the state tournament. The team averaged 70.8 points while allowing 38.7 in league play.
Yasso’s teammate — fellow senior Kawohi Huihui — was named to the first team. Huihui averaged 16.5 points per game across the season and 15.8 in the BIIF. A highlight from his season came on Dec. 6-7, 2024, as he Huihui tallied 52 points in the Warriors’ two games against Damien and Saint Louis.
Konawaena, who finished the BIIF season 11-4 and 14-12 overall, had two seniors make the first team — Alex Martinez and Riley Asakura. Both players combined for over 20 points per game, helping lift the green and white to a state tournament appearance.
Kona averaged nearly 63 points and allowed under 44 throughout its schedule this season.
Kealakehe senior DeMarion Olloway was also selected to the team after averaging 17 points per game, helping the Waveriders to a 9-6 league record and 12-8 overall. Olloway scored over 20 points six times across the season, including a 26-point outburst against Kohala on Jan. 4.
Rounding out the DI first team was Waiakea senior Josiah Amuimuia, who finished the season as the Warriors’ only double-figure scorer at 12.6 points per game in the BIIF and 10.6 overall. He scored a season-high 26 points against Konawaena on Dec. 10, 2024.
There was no second team for Division I.
