KAILUA-KONA — Records were broken during last weekend’s Central Pacific Bank/Big Island Interscholastic Federation Track and Field Championships, setting the stage for this upcoming weekend’s state meet at Waverider Stadium.
Hawaii Preparatory Academy senior Elaina Head had herself a day Saturday in her field events, winning the girls high jump (5-07.00), discus throw (102-00) and triple jump (36-06.50). Head’s high jump leap of 1.70 meters was a personal and BIIF stadium record. The jump was also the fifth-highest in Hawaii and the 90th-best in the country.
Head’s top triple jump leap of 11.14 meters was the third best in the state, notching another personal record.
Head has won a BIIF-high 22 events in 2025, and will be one of the favorites to win her events at states.
Konawaena speedster Violet Schaut won three individual races — the girls 100-meter (11.98s), 200-meter (25.24s) and the 400-meter (56.53s). It was the second time this season that Schaut raced the 100-meter dash in under 12 seconds. The time was also a stadium record.
