Mahalo to the organizers
of Laupahoehoe festival
On behalf of the founders of the Laupahoehoe Music Festival who organized and held the first one on Feb. 18, 2006, and were recognized at the last festival on April 12 for our humble beginnings, we would like mahalo the current organizers for a very special music festival that included music, hula (planned and impromptu), a craft fair, food booths and silent auction with all proceeds going to support the needs of the Laupahoehoe Community Public Charter School. Even the weather cooperated.
Mahalo piha to Lily and Luke Hubbard, Anela Chung and Arrke Hoopii for their leadership and all the sponsors and volunteers who worked diligently for several months attending to every detail to make it the wonderful event that it was. Congratulations on a successful event.
Also, a big mahalo to everyone who came and supported this event. You are so very much appreciated — because you all put the icing on the cake by being there.
We would also like to express a special mahalo Lt. Gov. Sylvia Luke and Councilwoman Heather Kimball for taking time out of their busy schedules to spend time to mingle with us. That was special and so much appreciated.
Several of our founders have passed on but were there in spirit and represented by family members. They are Braddah Smitty, Don Canario, Sweetie Maikui and Tommy Poy.
Those of us who were there were myself, Aunty Kawaihona Poy and Albert Maikui, all members of the Hawaiian Civic Club of Laupahoehoe.
Mahalo for the recognition with our certificates of appreciation. We did it out of love for our culture, community and the haumana of the Laupahoehoe Community Public Charter School.
We are so happy to see it being perpetuated and in good hands.

President Trump is
is ‘acting like Hitler’
Regarding Mr. James Borden’s letter on April 10, “Trump is the greatest!”
OK, Mr. Borden, you are entitled to you opinion. However, both parties lie, and some of Mr. Trump’s executive orders are unconstitutional.
He’s acting like Hitler when he invaded Poland, then pushed Jews out of Germany (similar to trying to remove immigrants from the U.S. and annexing Greenland).
Instead of paying El Salvador $6 million to house people from the U.S., why not use that money to help American family financial issues, Mr. Trump?
We no longer have the good relations we had with Canada and Mexico, and the tariffs will only hurt Americans.
Mr. Trump’s self-serving decisions will turn this country into a dictatorship.
