HPA 12, KSH 6
Second-seeded Hawaii Preparatory Academy girls water polo routed No. 3 Kamehameha-Hawaii 12-6 in Thursday’s Big Island Interscholastic Federation (BIIF) semifinals in Kea‘au, winning 12-6 to advance to today’s championship against unbeaten Hilo.
Maile Imonen led Ka Makani in goals with five, adding to her team-leading 23 goals on the year. Teammate Ione Chicoine added two goals, while Maria Lopez Fando Monzon, Rosey Wawner, Reece Lustik, Kaili Wood and Keira Brewer scored one each.
On the Lady Warriors’ side, Caylee Cook, Koali Ito and Oliliuwelaakawahine Wise scored two each.
HPA, now 9-2, will get another shot at No. 1 Hilo at 11:30 a.m. this morning at KSH’s campus for the island title. Ka Makani’s only two losses came against the Vik Queens this season.
KSH, falling to 6-5, will take on Kealakehe in the third-place match at 10 a.m. this morning at KSH.
Hilo 11, Kealakehe 6
No. 1 Hilo girls water polo stayed perfect with an 11-6 semifinal win over fourth-seeded Kealakehe, improving to 11-0 on the season. The Lady Waveriders fell to 4-7.
Noelani and Marisa Oishi led the Vik Queens with three goals each, followed by teammates Emma Iwashita, Terangi Moleni, Stella Raye, Lily Hubbard and Lilinoe Tonelli with one each. Moleni leads the team in goals in 2025 with 21.
Hannah White led Kealakehe with a game-high four goals. Her teammates — Mele McMichael and Noami Nikolai — each scored once.
Hilo will look to complete the island season with a perfect record against HPA, while the Lady ‘Riders next face KSH in the third-place game.
