Kona 3, Kealakehe 1
Konawaena boys volleyball ended the regular season strong, avenging Kealakehe in four sets Monday night inside Ellison Onizuka Gymnasium. The Wildcats handled business smoothly after previously falling to the Waveriders for the first time in nearly a decade on March 28.
The ‘Riders won Monday’s first set 25-23, but Kona answered right back with a 25-23 second-frame victory. The Wildcats did not let their foot off the gas from there, winning the final two sets 25-17 and 27-25.
Kona finished the regular season 11-1 overall, while Kealakehe concluded at 10-2. Both are expected to be serious contenders for the BIIF crown. Playoffs are slated to begin Friday.
JV: Kona wins 2-1 — 19-25, 25-16 and 15-9.
Hilo 3, Pahoa 0
Hilo boys volleyball ended the regular season unbeaten, sweeping Pahoa for the second time this season at home. The Vikings improved to 13-0, while the Daggers fell to 6-8.
Hilo won by set scores of 25-16, 25-19 and 25-19. The Vikings have 10 sweeps this season, establishing themselves as one of the state’s powerhouses and contenders to win the BIIF and HHSAA crown.
