Jay Burton Kopelman, 85, of Kailua-Kona, died Feb. 10 at home. Born and raised in The Bronx, New York City, he graduated from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, attended Duke University, earned his PhD in physics at Northwestern University, taught physics at University of Colorado at Boulder, did energy research at Stanford Research Institute and was director of international relations at Electric Power Research Institute in Palo Alto, Calif.
