The Hawaii County Department of Parks and Recreation has announced that registration is now open for an American Red Cross Lifeguarding Certification Course held during spring break at the Pahoa Community Aquatic Center.

The course, which includes deep-water training, will take place daily from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. March 17-21.

Participants will gain essential lifesaving skills, and successful completion of the course will provide a credential that can lead to future job opportunities.

The course is open to individuals who will be 15 years old on or before the final session.

In addition, participants must pass two prerequisite swimming skills evaluations, which will be held on the first day of class.

The cost of the course is $122, payable in cash in the exact amount at the first class.
