The County of Hawai‘i Department of Parks &Recreation, in partnership with Hawai‘i Futsal and the WeGo! Foundation, announces that registration is now open for the 2025 Hawai‘i International Futsal Cup to be held Aug. 15-17 in Hilo.
The event returns following a successful tournament last year that drew 46 teams and approximately 400 players from Japan, Hawai‘i, and the continental United States.
“The Hawai‘i International Futsal Cup is a great example of how we can foster cross-cultural connections through friendly competition,” said Mayor Kimo Alameda. “Now in its third year, the tournament continues to add teams from across the Pacific, and we look forward to welcoming more players than ever.”
Originally developed in Uruguay in the 1930s, Futsal is version of soccer that is played on a hard court, usually indoors, with five players per side. The smaller space creates a fast-paced sport that emphasizes technique and skill.
“The Hawai‘i International Futsal Cup has grown so much in the last two years, and we expect it to continue growing as more teams hear about this great event,” said Recreation Administrator Lindsey Iyo. “We’re excited to host another positive, fun-filled tournament, which we scheduled on a holiday weekend this year so we can hold more games on the opening day.”
The 2025 Hawai’i International Futsal Cup will take place at the Edith Kanaka‘ole Multi-Purpose Stadium, the Afook-Chinen Civic Auditorium, and Pana‘ewa Park. See below for information about age groups, fees and registration.
