Man sentenced 10 years for possession of fentanyl, heroin
A Pepeekeo man, 32-year-old Cody Lee Ranchez Araw, was sentenced to a 10-year prison term for possession of fentanyl and heroin, according to county Prosecutor Kelden Waltjen.
On Wednesday, Araw, who remained in custody in lieu of $100,000 bail throughout the duration of these criminal proceedings, appeared in Hilo Circuit Court for sentencing.
Araw pleaded guilty on Oct. 16 to second- and third-degree promotion of a dangerous drug, the former for fentanyl, the latter for heroin.
On April 16, 2024, Araw was contacted by police while at the Suisan Warehouse in Hilo. Following the execution of narcotics search warrants, East Hawaii Vice Section officers seized 71.5 fentanyl pills, as well as a small amount of heroin, $505 in cash and drug paraphernalia.
Second-degree promotion of a dangerous drug is a Class B felony which carries a maximum penalty of a 10-year prison term. Third-degree promotion of a dangerous drug is a Class C felony which carries a maximum five-year prison term.
