A 30-year-old man was rescued Wednesday afternoon after he reportedly jumped into the Wailuku River near Reed’s Island in Hilo and struck a submerged rock.
A 30-year-old man was rescued Wednesday afternoon after he reportedly jumped into the Wailuku River near Reed’s Island in Hilo and struck a submerged rock.
According to a Hawaii Fire Department statement, two friends assisted the man to shore.
The victim was then was airlifted by a county helicopter and Fire Rescue personnel to an awaiting ambulance at Clem Akina Park in Wainaku, which took him to Hilo Medical Center for further treatment.
There was no report on the man’s injuries or his condition.
