Tuesday saw two BIIF volleyball matches between the isle’s east and northeast sides — Kealakehe HS at Kea‘au HS and Pahoa HS at Honoka‘a HS.

KEA‘AU VS. KEALAKEHE
Up until now, the Cougars were winless at 0-5. But on Tuesday night, they climbed out of the bottom BIIF DI standing and into the win column with a 3-1 home victory over the Waveriders.
Kealakehe also entered the match winless, and has now fallen to 0-6.
Despite an early deficit, the Cougars overcame the Waveriders to win the first set 25-23. Kealakehe kept things close, and turned the tables to win the second set also by 25-23.
Kea‘au persevered through the neck-and-neck battle to win the third set 25-21 and close out the match with a 25-23 win for the fourth set.
Kea‘au will be back in action today, hosting Kamehameha Schools – Hawai‘i — JV starts at 5 p.m., varsity follows.
Also today, Kealakehe will host Hilo HS — with the same start time.
The Waveriders and Cougars will only encounter each other one more time during the regular season, which will be this week — Saturday (10 a.m. JV, varsity follows) at Kealakehe HS.
Tuesday’s varsity action came on the heels of a three-set JV match — which saw the Waveriders win 25-21 and 15-10 after losing the first set to Kea‘au 25-18.

HONOKA‘A VS. PAHOA
The Daggers swept the homestanding Dragons — winning straight sets of 25-22, 25-10 and 25-12.
With this win, Pahoa overcame Honoka‘a in the BIIF DII standings — moving to No. 6 with a 5-3 record as the Dragons slid to No. 7 at 4-3.
Honoka‘a will take a short road trip Saturday morning, playing against Parker School.
Also on Saturday morning, Pahoa will host Kohala — JV starts at 10 a.m. and varsity at 11 a.m.
Pahoa’s JV also defeated Honoka‘a, winning 2-1.
