At about 2:35 a.m. Wednesday, officers responded to an active burglary at a business in the 92-8000 block of Mamalahoa Highway in Ocean View. While investigating, officers were alerted to a second active burglary occurring at a nearby retail establishment.
According to police, officers entered the second business and discovered a masked man, Derick Camacho, making verbal threats and physically dragging a 61-year-old man into a back room.
When Camacho refused to comply with officer’s orders to release the victim, an officer tased Camacho, who was subsequently taken into police custody, police said.
Camacho remains in custody at the Kealakehe Police Station while West Hawaii Criminal Investigation Section detectives continue to investigate. A charging decision with additional offenses is anticipated.
