An early morning fire Sunday destroyed a vacant plantation-era home in Pahoa village.
According to the Hawaii Fire Department, eight units responded to the 12:36 a.m. alarm, with the first unit arriving at the Kono Street scene off Pahoa Village Road eight minutes later.
Arriving firefighters found the medium-sized post-and-pier wooden structure fully engulfed in flames, with no occupants or bystanders in the area.
The fire was reported under control at 1:15 a.m. and extinguished at 1:45 a.m.
No damage estimate was given
and the cause of the blaze is under investigation.
