One new death of an individual with COVID-19 was reported for Hawaii County this week, a man over the age of 80.

The seven-day average COVID-19 case count for Hawaii County rose this week as well, from 77 cases over the last seven-day period up to 79 this week.

Overall, new COVID cases declined again for the fifth consecutive week throughout both the state and Hawaii County, although the Department of Health warns cases may be higher than reported due to the increase in at-home testing.

According to DOH data released today, there were 4,381 new COVID cases reported statewide over the past seven days, 981 fewer than the week before.

For Hawaii County, there were 516 new cases over the last seven days, a drop of 62 cases from the week before.

New deaths increased this week, from 15 over the last seven-day period up to 20 this week.

The new statewide active case count for the past 14-day period also dropped, from 10,021 down to 8,622.

This week’s data also reported a drop in the state’s average test positivity rate, from 16.5% down to 15.1% this week.

For Hilo’s 96720 ZIP code, there have been 311 new cases reported over the last 14-day period, a decline of 13 cases from the week before.

A majority of new cases reported over the past seven days have occurred in the 45 to 64 age group, while trends continue downward for all age groups throughout the state.

The death toll for the state is now listed at 1,524 individuals.

There are currently 22 COVID hospitalizations in Hawaii County, down 12 from the week before, and two individuals remain in the ICU with COVID-19.
