Juniors Rachel Tao and Paul Varricatt, both of Waiakea High School, will make their way to the 2022 Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair this May. Whitney Aragaki was lauded with the teacher award in the high school division.
Nearly 60 students competed in this year’s fair. Rounding out the top projects in the high school division were: Alanna Sun (third place) from Waiakea High School and Maya Oishi (honorable mention) from Hilo High School.
In the junior division, Hilo Intermediate School students swept top honors. Molly Schneider placed first, Bryan Assi placed second, Vivian Emmons placed third, and Thalia Elise Ann Viernes earned Honorable Mention.
Twenty students will represent the Hawai‘i District at the Hawaii State Science and Engineering Fair in April: Rachel Tao, Paul Varricatt, Alanna Sun, Maya Oishi, Taarini Godbole, Beatrice Kim-Lee, Molly Schneider, Bryan Assi, Vivian Emmons, Thalia Elise Ann Viernes, Kristin Ichimasa, Anwar Genz, Sadee Tamanaha, Logan Schlueter, James Hodges, Colby Napeahi, Alexy Bisel, Caleb Pham, River Flynn, and Lillian Tao.
