During the week of Jan. 10-16, Hawaii Island police arrested 26 motorists for DUI.

Seven of the drivers were involved in a traffic accident. Three of the drivers were younger than 21.

The numbers of arrests by district were: Kona, 13; South Hilo, six; Puna, four; South Kohala, two; and North Kohala, one.

So far this year, there have been 50 DUI arrests compared to 64 during the same period last year, a decrease of 21.9%.

There have been 30 major accidents so far this year compared to 27 during the same period last year, an increase of 11.1%.

To date, there have been two official traffic fatalities, the same as for this time last year.

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue islandwide, police said.
