Murdoch’s ‘propaganda’
According to hospital records, nearly 100% of the people in the United States who are dying in the latest omicron surge are unvaccinated people. These deaths are totally preventable.
So many of these unvaccinated people are encouraged in their beliefs by a single source — Fox News.
Why has Fox News pushed this position? It’s simple. The owner of Fox News, Rupert Murdoch, wants to have leverage in the Republican Party so that they will write laws that benefit himself and his business.
In the Trump era, that means kowtowing to the whims and delusions of Donald Trump. And, right from the beginning, Trump made masking and vaccinations into partisan issues just so he could bellow about the Democrats “taking away your freedoms.”
Rupert Murdoch does not grant press interviews, but when he finally dies and has to face the questions of the Almighty, I shudder to think of the consequences he will have to bear for condemning hundreds of thousands of Americans to death through his propaganda network.

Illegal truck mods
It’s about time the police start enforcing the laws regarding unsafe/illegal trucks (“Police target vehicles with illegal alterations,” Tribune-Herald, Jan. 9).
There are a couple other safety issues to work on, as well. Hawaii vehicle code section 15-24.22(b) says that animals must be in a container or tethered in the vehicle.
It is also illegal to have a cover on your license plates. Some plates are totally unreadable.
All three of these issues would generate much-needed revenue and make the roads safer for all.

I want to thank the maintenance guys at the state Department of Transportation’s Highways Division.
We had a problem with unpermitted work being done on a property next to us and a pile of rocks on Highway 11 that was a obvious safety hazard. District Engineer Harry Takiue’s maintenance crew came up to Volcano and made short work of fixing the problem. The whole crew was full of aloha.
These people have the thankless job of maintaining our state roads. Thanks all of you for your help.
