A 35-year-old Kurtistown man became the seventh person charged in a 10-day period with auto theft.
Jessie B. Gamilo is charged with second-degree theft, unauthorized control of a stolen vehicle, unauthorized possession of confidential personal information, methamphetamine possession and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Gamilo, who was arrested Tuesday, is accused of the theft of a Toyota Tacoma pickup truck Aug. 5 from in front of a Hawaiian Paradise Park residence.
At the time of Gamilo’s arrest, he was also wanted on two outstanding warrants for unrelated matters. Review of court records indicates that Gamilo was also on court-supervised release without monetary bail for another unrelated felony unauthorized control of stolen vehicle and unauthorized possession of confidential personal information case that allegedly occurred in 2019.
Gamilo pleaded not guilty to the new charges Thursday in Hilo District Court and was ordered by Judge Kanani Laubach to return at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday for a preliminary hearing.
Gamilo remains in custody at Hawaii Community Correctional Center on $40,000 bail.
