Junior bowlers Krysjyn-Kydyn Nakamura of Kamehameha and Renalyn Corpuz of Konawaena each showed marked progress and ended their seasons on high notes on Kauai, where once again the BIIF didn’t dent the individual leaderboard at the HHSAA championships.
Nakamura averaged 153.1 in his eight-game series Thursday and Friday – a 22-point improvement from the BIIF championships, where he was third – to finish 38th. Corpuz was 48th with a 128.1 average, bettering her score by 16 points from BIIFs, where she was fourth.
The BIIF champ Kealakehe boys were third, with Brandon Mendoza (137.6) Kainoa Plato (129.3), Kaiden Eytcheson (122.8) and Finnigan Morton (121.8) all clearing 120 averages.
Eytcheson won the BIIF title.
Kahiwa Ili was 53rd for the Kamehameha girls at 124.5, and BIIF champ Briana Gaylord (120.5) was 61st.
The tournament has seen a dearth of BIIF contenders of late. Madison Staup was fifth for Konawaena in 2014, marking the league’s last top-10 finish.
Mililani’s Michael Weyl (201.5) and Pearl City freshman Samantha Kanehailua (188) on gold on Kauai.
