A 37-year-old Ocean View man suffered severe injuries following a two-vehicle collision Saturday at the intersection of Plumeria Lane and Coconut Drive in Ocean View.
A 37-year-old Ocean View man suffered severe injuries following a two-vehicle collision Saturday at the intersection of Plumeria Lane and Coconut Drive in Ocean View.
Police identified the injured man as Jason Oliveira Kanakamaikai.
Officers responding to a 9 a.m. call determined that a green 2002 Honda Rancher ATV was heading northeast on Coconut Drive when it failed to stop at the intersection of Plumeria Lane and sideswiped a southbound green 2000 Dodge van.
Kanakamaikai was the driver of the ATV. He was transported to the Kona Community Hospital for initial treatment and later transported to The Queens Medical Center on Oahu.
At last report, he was listed in critical condition.
The driver of the Dodge van, a 65-year-old man, and his passengers, a 64-year-old woman and 68-year-old woman, all of Ocean View, were uninjured.
Police think speed and impairment are possible factors in the crash.
