The Big Island Substance Abuse Council received a $15,000 grant from Hawaiian Electric to assist with providing services at their Rural Wellness Hubs. The Rural Wellness Hubs provide substance use and mental health services to rural-underserved communities.
The Big Island Substance Abuse Council received a $15,000 grant from Hawaiian Electric to assist with providing services at their Rural Wellness Hubs. The Rural Wellness Hubs provide substance use and mental health services to rural-underserved communities.
“Our Hubs provide linkages between rural communities who lack resources and service providers. This month we opened our first Hub in Kohala and plan on opening future Hubs in Ka‘u and Pahoa” said BISAC’s CEO, Dr. Hannah Preston-Pita.
In addition to services, BISAC has also committed to on-going trainings such as drug awareness, suicide prevention, and helping to equip the community with Naloxone kits. These trainings are another layer of creating sustainable and healthy communities. “We are extremely grateful for Hawaiian Electric’s grant because it will allow us to continue to provide services and provide opportunities for individuals to reclaims their lives.”
