The state Department of Health today reported 429 new confirmed and probable COVID-19 cases in Hawaii, including 52 on the Big Island.
An average of 617 new cases have been reported daily Sept. 1-7.
Hawaii County now has a 7.6% test positivity rate, compared to a 7.1% positivity rate statewide.
In the past 14 days, 382 infections have been reported in Hilo and 420 have been reported in Kailua-Kona.
During that same time period, 67 cases have been reported in Honokaa; 102 in Waimea; 73 in Kealakekua; 57 in the Captain Cook, Ocean View and Honaunau areas; 79 in Pahoa; and 115 in Keaau.
Seven additional COVID-related deaths also were reported today.
One Oahu woman, 30-39, had been hospitalized and had underlying health conditions. The remaining six, all Oahu men over 50, also had been hospitalized and had underlying conditions.
The DOH has reported 60 deaths in the past two weeks.
“While case counts have dropped slightly in recent days, we are still in the middle of the deadliest surge of the pandemic,” a DOH spokeswoman said.
According to the DOH, 64.8% of the state’s population has been fully vaccinated against COVID-19, while 73% have received at least one dose.
In Hawaii County, 61% of residents have been fully vaccinated while 73% have received at least one dose.
More than 70.1% of residents in Hilo, Papaikou, Pepeekeo, Honokaa and Hawi have been fully vaccinated.

Testing is available today from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. at the Afook-Chinen Civic Auditorium in Hilo, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Kona Community Aquatic Center in Kailua-Kona, noon to 2 p.m. at the Pahala Community Center in Pahala and 2-6 p.m. at Panaewa Park in Hilo.
