Elvis Abian Bartolome Sr., 48, of Pahoa died June 20 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Hilo, he was a self-employed papaya farmer and a member of Pahoa Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Visitation 4-6 p.m. Friday (Aug. 20) at Dodo Mortuary Chapel. Wake service at 6 p.m. Mass at 10:30 a.m. Saturday (Aug. 21) at Pahoa Sacred Heart Catholic Church. James V. DeFilippis, 72, of Hilo died July 17 at Hawaii Care Choices Pohai Malama Care Center. Born in Passaic, N.J., he was retired from the University of Florida School of Agriculture, a U.S. Navy Vietnam war veteran, chi gung master and a Master Gardener who established the Hilo Bay Clinic Garden and has YouTube and Vimeo videos. Josephine “Miss D” DeMorales, 78, of Hilo died Aug. 9 at home. Born in Naalehu, she was a retired principal of Ka‘u High School and Pahala Elementary School and vice principal of Konawaena High School. Memorial mass 8 a.m. Thursday (Aug. 19) at Naalehu Sacred Heart Church. Urn burial 9 a.m. Friday (Aug. 20) at Homelani Memorial Park. Kyle Ben Joaquin, 49, of Papaaloa died May 29 at Providence St. Peter Hospital in Seattle. Born in Honolulu, he was a mover for Hawaii Professional Movers, salesman and manager for Royal Hawaiian Movers, manager at the Disney Hotel, Venetian Hotel, Grand Naniloa Hotel and King Kamehameha Hotel, among others. Jeremy Gilbert Song, 74, of Hilo died June 26. Born in Hilo, he was the retired owner of the former Modern Shoe Repair business in Hilo.
