During the week of March 29-April 4, Hawaii Island police arrested 29 motorists for DUI. Six of the drivers were involved traffic accidents; none were younger than 21.
The numbers of arrests by district were: Kona, 15; South Hilo; eight; South Kohala, four; and Puna, two.
So far this year, there have been 331 DUI arrests compared to 266 during the same period last year, an increase of 24.4%.
There have been 198 major accidents so far this year compared to 243 during the same period last year, a decrease of 18.5%.
There have been seven official traffic fatalities this year, the same number as this time last year.
DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue islandwide, police said.
