During the week of March 22-28, Hawaii Island police arrested 19 motorists for DUI. Two of the drivers were involved in a traffic accident. One was younger than 21.
So far this year, there have been 302 DUI arrests compared to 262 during the same period last year, an increase of 15.3%.
There have been 177 major accidents so far this year compared to 232 during the same period last year, a decrease of 23.7%.
To date this year, there have been seven official traffic fatalities. That is the same number of fatalities during the same time period last year.
DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue islandwide, police said.
