The Big Island Woodturners and Wailoa Center are pleased to announce the 23rd Annual Big Island Woodturners Show, which will run from March 5 to March 25.
The opening of the exhibit will be March 5 with an Open House from 1-7 p.m. Masks and social distancing will be required. Hours of operation for the month of March during the exhibit will be 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday-Saturday. There will be no Saturday workshops and demonstrations due to COVID-19 restrictions.
View around 100 works from over 18 woodturning artists using native and other exotic woods found on the Big Island. Talk to the woodturners and learn what is involved in creating the works. At least one member of the club will be on hand every day the show is open. The club is made up of over 50 members.
Normally, the Big Island Woodturners Club meets every other month, however, with the virus protocols this has not been possible. The club members are looking forward to resuming the meetings as soon as the pandemic is over.
Membership in the club is easy — just show up for at least one meeting a year.
At the meetings, members discuss new ideas for woodturning and give educational demonstrations, including some by nationally known artists. All levels of experience are welcome, from beginners to experts.
Wailoa Center is a Division of State Parks, Department of Land and Natural Resources. It is free and open to the public. The Center is closed on Sundays and state holidays. For additional information, please call 933-0416 or email wailoa@yahoo.com.
