George Calicdan, 75, of Hilo died Dec. 22 at home. Born in Waimanalo, Oahu, he was a retired cable splicer for Verizon, youth baseball and basketball coach, member of the MindBenders softball team, Ali’s Motorcycle Club and a U.S. Navy veteran. Visitation 8:30-10:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 7, at Dodo Mortuary Chapel. Funeral service at 10:30 a.m. Burial to follow at East Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. 2. No food or refreshments. Face masks and social distancing required. Survived by wife, Susan Calicdan of Hilo; sons, Christopher (Kristie) Calicdan and Corey (Chelsi) Calicdan of Hilo; sisters, Mary Jane (Jim) Peleiholani of Hilo and Lilian Soares of Honolulu; brothers, Segundo Calicdan Jr. of Hilo and John (Patricia) Calicdan of Reno, Nev.; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins. Patricia “Aunty Patty” Nohea Chong, 69, of Kailua-Kona died Dec. 16 at home. Born in Puuanahulu, she was a cook at the former Teru’s Restaurant and Bar, former Queen K Tesoro and Sam Choy’s Restaurant. Private services at a later date. Survived by sons, Benson (Tisha) Chong and Duane Chong of Kailua-Kona; brother, Albert Mitchell of Kailua-Kona; sisters, Doreen (Lawrence) Mills, Juliette (Alan) Lucena and Vivian (Matthew) Kaili of Kailua-Kona; four grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins. Lorraine Margaret Kaono, 81, of Waimea died Aug. 23 at home. Born in North Kohala, she was owner of Lorraine’s Snack Mobile. Private services held. Survived by children, Susan (Keith) Corotan of Kohala, Reginald (Kimberly) Ignacio, Alton (Melony) Kaono and Elliot (Vicky) Kaono of Waimea; brothers, George (Sonja) Berdon of Ocean View and Kenneth (Leah) Demaya of Waimea; sisters, Helen Kauhi of Hilo, Rose (Edward) Spencer of Waimea and Leonora (Thomas) Wright of Arizona; grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. Walter Manfred McGuire, 60, of Hilo died Dec. 23 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Marktredwitz, Germany, he was a retired construction worker, former youth basketball coach and U.S. Army veteran.
