I think the idea of $500 restaurant cards is a good one. However, perhaps they should be offered to low income/fixed income folks, such as those on Social Security, as well.
I know plenty of these families who would like to eat out but can’t afford to — not just now, but always.
I’m sure the opportunity would be appreciated.

Mahalo to Rochelle delaCruz for her reminiscences about the downtown Hilo post office and the U.S. Postal Service in general (Tribune-Herald, Oct. 5).
For the past 30 years, I have enjoyed the excellent and friendly service from the employees there who have always been so patient, cheerful, helpful and efficient.
Along with that is the wonderful location in such a beautiful federal building of which we can all be very proud.
If that weren’t enough, the downtown post office is a great community meeting place where I frequently run into good friends who I don’t see often enough.
Also worthy of mention are the many employees at the Hilo airport post office. While the building is nothing special, the employees have always given excellent customer service.
Lastly, the friendly mail carriers who deliver to our residences and businesses are the best. We are truly lucky to live in Hilo!
