Alvin “Al” Paul Cabral, 73, of Hilo died Sept. 8 at home. Born in Olaa, he retired from Hawaii National Guard, Day-Lum Rentals and Management and Hawaii Electric Light Co. as an electrical inspector. He was a director of the Panaewa Stampede Rodeo, president of Hawaii Horse Owners and member of Ka‘u Roping and Riding Club and St. Joseph School Class of 1965 Breakfast Club. He was grand marshal and pa‘u marshal of the Merrie Monarch Parade. Services at 10 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 14, 2021, at the Panaewa Stampede Rodeo. No flowers. Memorial donations to Hawaii Horse Owners and Friends of Panaewa Zoo. Survived by wife, Nancy Cabral of Hilo; sons, Todd (Randi) Cabral of Kapolei, Oahu, Jeff (Lacey) Cabral of Hilo, J.C. (Whitney) Cabral of Grass Valley, Ore., and Cody Cabral of San Tan Valley, Ariz.; sister, Joyce (Dennis) Wong of Mountain View; five grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins. Another weekend with neither justice nor peace
The ambush-style shooting Saturday evening of two Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies as they sat in their patrol car at the L.A. Metro station in Compton was cruel and disgusting, as were the words that some demonstrators reportedly shouted outside St. Francis Medical Center in Lynwood, where the two deputies were being treated.
