Police said Tuesday that they’re seeking a 36-year-old Pahoa man accused of skipping out on a six-figure bail in a case involving several violent felony charges.
Dustin K. Tomono is described as 5 feet, 4 inches tall, about 135 pounds, with a slender build, black hair and brown eyes. He’s known to frequent Hawaiian Paradise Park subdivision in Puna, police said.
Tomono is charged with kidnapping, carrying a firearm in the commission of a felony, being a felon in possession of a firearm, felony and misdemeanor domestic abuse and two counts each of second-degree assault and first-degree terroristic threatening.
The offenses were allegedly carried out between May 9 and 12 and between July 10 and 24, and the alleged victim is an adult woman.
The two most serious offenses, kidnapping and carrying a firearm in the commission of a felony, are Class A felonies that carry a potential 20-year prison term upon conviction.
Prosecutors allege in the complaint that Tomono is a “persistent offender” and “multiple offender” and subject to extended terms of imprisonment. The complaint cites felony convictions for domestic abuse aggravated by strangulation and second-degree property damage, plus three misdemeanor convictions for domestic abuse and another misdemeanor conviction for violating an order for protection.
According to records, Tomono, who was free on $110,000 bail posted by a bondsman, missed appearances Aug. 6 and 27 and Sept. 3, and is facing a violating terms of release charge for the nonappearances.
Tomono also has active felony burglary and drug possession cases pending.
