More than 70,000 people in the United States have died to due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
That’s 10,000 more fatalities than were reported last Wednesday, and 30,000 more than on Monday, April 20.
There were 70,272 virus-related deaths in the U.S. as of 10:45 a.m. HST, or about 27% of the world’s virus fatalities.
New York continues to have the highest death toll (25,073) of any state.
Worldwide, 255,069 people have died from the virus, according to the Johns Hopkins Coronavirus Resource Center, and more than 3.6 million have tested positive. The virus has spread t0 187 countries.
There have been 1,194,494 confirmed cases in the U.S.
The first confirmed case in the U.S. was on Jan. 22.
On March 1, there were 98 confirmed cases in the U.S. On March 15, there were about 4,600 cases.
By April 1, the number rose to more than 243,000 as testing efforts increased nationally. On April 15, there were 636,000 cases.
As of this morning, the number of people who have tested positive in Hawaii County is 75. Sixty-three of those have recovered, and the rest are quarantined at home and are being monitored by the state Department of Health.
Statewide, there have been 621 cases as of Monday.
More than 1.1 million people worldwide have recovered from the virus, including just over 187,000 in the U.S.
