Donald Norman Blake Hall, 75, of Hilo died March 18 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Sydney, Australia, he was a research professor of astronomy at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. Private services. Survived by wife, Patricia Tummons of Hilo; son, Andrew Hall of Portland, Ore.; daughter, Katherine Gonsalves of Portland; brother, Christopher Hall of Sydney; former wife, Sandra Kimberly Hall of Honolulu; two grandchildren. Tobi Laeb, 52, of Kailua-Kona died April 7 at Kona Community Hospital. Born in Mili, Marshall Islands, he was an equipment operator for the county Department of Water Supply and member of Kona Marshallese Church. Private services. Survived by wife, Atna Laeb of Kailua-Kona; son, Isaiah Laeb of Kailua-Kona; daughter, Ruth (Wilton) Note of Seattle; brother, Percy Laeb of the Marshall Islands; three grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins. Stephen Charles Schmelz, 62, of Kailua-Kona died April 19 at Kona Community Hospital. Born in Oakland, Calif., he was a district manager for the state Department of Land and Natural Resources Hawaii Division of Boating, former police officer, member of Makalei Kolepa Hui golf club and U.S. Air Force veteran. Services at a later date. Survived by wife, Jessica Schmelz of Kailua-Kona; daughter, Stephanie (Christopher) Marsala of San Tan Valley, Ariz.; brother, Robert Schmelz of Forney, Texas; a grandson; nieces and nephews. Leslie Toshiaki Tanimoto, 84, of Hilo died April 26 at home. Born in Papaikou, he was the retired owner of Les T. Corp., American Vending &Amusements, Wizards World and Mulligans Island Amusement Centers, managed the former Hilo Lanes, where he helped start the Hilo Junior Bowlers league, was a former member of Hilo Bay Rotary Club and a U.S. Army veteran. Internment at Homelani Memorial Park. Survived by daughters, Col. Laura (David) Wheeler of Springfield, Va., and Rebekah (Yeung) Lam of Los Angeles; son-in-law, Jason Hashimoto of Hilo; brother, Lawrence (Somai) Tanimoto of Kurtistown; sisters, Mildred Tahara of Oahu and Edna (Bob) Nowaki of Hilo; a granddaughter and a great-grandson.
