More than 50,000 people in the United States have died to due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
That’s 10,000 more fatalities than were reported on Monday.
There were 50,780 deaths in the U.S. as of 10:35 a.m. HST, or about 25% of the world’s virus fatalities. New York continues to have the highest death toll (16,162) of any state.
Worldwide, 195,000 have died from the virus, according to the Johns Hopkins Coronavirus Resource Center, and nearly 2.8 million people have tested positive.
There have been 886,213 confirmed cases in the U.S.
On March 1, there were 98 confirmed cases in the U.S.
On March 15, there were about 4,600 cases.
By April 1, the number rose to more than 243,000 as testing efforts increased nationally. On April 15, there were 636,000 cases.
As of this morning, the number of people who have tested positive in Hawaii County is 67.
Thirty-nine of those have recovered, and 27 are quarantined at home and are being monitored by the state Department of Health. One adult male remains hospitalized at the Kona Community Hospital.
Statewide, there were 594 cases as of Thursday and more than 26,000 people have been tested.
More than 765,000 people worldwide have recovered from the virus, including just over 81,000 in the U.S.
