During the week of April 13-19, Hawaii Island police arrested seven motorists for DUI. One of the drivers was involved in a traffic accident and one was younger than 21.
The numbers of arrests by district were: Kona, three; South Hilo and Puna, two each.
So far this year, there have been 281 DUI arrests compared to 349 during the same period last year, a decrease of 19.5%.
There have been 259 major accidents so far this year compared to 289 during the same period last year, a decrease of 10.4%.
To date, there have been eight official traffic fatalities compared to five during the same time period last year, an increase of 60%.
DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue islandwide, police said.
