Support the arts
We have all given up doing many of the things we love to do, but what I miss the most is my occasional night out at the Palace Theater, UH-Hilo Performing Arts Center and other venues that give us a chance to relax and appreciate the arts.
Now that the government is sending us all checks, I ask that those of us who are fortunate enough not to have lost our jobs remember to donate at least part of this money to our beloved arts organizations so they can survive this emergency and we can someday return to the plays, concerts and movies that help keep our community vibrant.

Beware of scammers
With all the free money the feds are giving out, you can count on the scammers to be there. Be very careful about your emails and what you respond to and how you respond.
I can just see the emails requesting your bank routing and account numbers so they can get you that COVID-19 money as fast as possible. Be very careful with that information.
I would also like to take this time to thank the current and future generation of taxpayers for your generous gift of money to everyone.
I know it will take a very long time to pay back all the trillions of dollars, but I do thank you from the bottom of my wallet for your sacrifice.
Your generosity is only outdone by the Democrats who also want to give money to all of the illegal aliens in this country so they, too, don’t suffer financial burdens.
I’m sorry. I’m getting emotional. I need a hanky; my tears nearly shorted out my keyboard.

‘No business’
Mayor Harry Kim just announced that legally licensed short-term vacation rentals must shut down online advertising listings.
How will guests who want to cancel do so with listings offline? Seventy-five percent of our guests book more than six months or more in advance of booking date.
We loose future income. We blocked April and May already because of COVID-19.
Harry, really? Hotels are allowed to take bookings for the future.
Is this the hotel industry trying to further damage legal small businesses? Sure looks like it. No business means no taxes.
