According to the Johns Hopkins Coronavirus Resource Center, 101,732 people have succumbed to the virus as 0f 10 a.m. HST, and more than 1.6 million have tested positive.
In the United States, there have been 18,022 deaths. Only Italy (18,849) has had more COVID-19 fatalities, but the U.S. is expected to surpass that number this weekend. New York leads the nation with more than 7,800 deaths.
The U.S. and Italy are followed by Spain (15,970 deaths) and France (13,215).
More than 460,000 people in the U.S. have tested positive — including 442 in Hawaii, 29 of which were on the Big Island as of this morning.
On March 1, there were 98 confirmed cases in the U.S. On March 15, there were about 4,600 cases. By April 1, the number rose to more than 243,000 as testing efforts increased nationally.
More than 372,000 people worldwide have recovered from the virus, including nearly 28,000 in the U.S.
