Carolyn R. Koehnen, 94, of Hilo died Aug. 25 at home. Born in Auburn, Calif., she was a retired nurse and widow of businessman and community leader Fred J. Koehnen. Private services held. Survived by daughters, Lynne P. Forbes, Helie K. Rock and Kristi Robinson; five grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

James Clabern Frye, 71, of Kailua-Kona died Oct. 4 in Kealakekua. Born in Lenoir City, Tenn., he was a factory line inspector for General Motors, U.S. Army Vietnam War veteran and Purple Heart recipient and member of Disabled American Veterans Cappter 7. Private services at a later date. Online condolences: Survived by wife Carolyn; daughters Donna Sue (Keith) Logan of Lincoln Park, Mich., and Mary Jane (Daniel) Richardson of Harrison, Mich.; brothers, Charles (Brenda) Jenkins of Lenoir City and Larry Dean Frye of Florida; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Katherine Joyce Mallett, 76, of Ocean View died Oct. 7 at Hospice of Kona’s Nakamaru Hale in Holualoa. Born in Grand Rapids, Mich., she was a retired licensed practical nurse for Kona Community Hospital. Private service held. Family condolences to: P.O. Box 6475, Ocean View, HI 96737. Survived by daughter, Emmalee Albin-Keith of Ocean View; sister, Fran Merriman of Michigan; brothers, John Albin and Jim Albin of Michigan; nieces and nephews.
