Kamanaokaaina “Mana” K. Nakooka was charged today with first-degree assault, first-degree terroristic threatening, prohibited possession of a firearm, use of a firearm in the commission of a separate felony and unauthorized controlled of a stolen vehicle.
Nakooka remains in custody at Hawaii Community Correctional Center in lieu of $105,000 bail. He is set to appear in Hilo District Court on Friday.
The victim of the shooting, a 41-year-old man, was taken by ambulance to the Hilo Medical Center Emergency Room, where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries.
Police say Nakooka was arrested Tuesday in a stolen vehicle on a vacant lot in Hawaiian Paradise
A 24-year-old woman passenger in the stolen vehicle, Malia K. Konanui of Keaau was arrested and charged with first- and third-degree promotion of a dangerous drug and two counts of possessing drug paraphernalia.
Her bail was set at $12,500 and her initial court appearance was scheduled for this afternoon.
