Carrie Lynda Hurst, 61, of Holualoa died Sept. 20 at Kona Community Hospital. Born in Palm Beach, Fla., she was a homemaker. Funeral service 8:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 30, at Kona Outdoor Circle, 76-6280 Kuakini Highway in Kailua-Kona. Burial to follow at Kona Memorial Park in Holualoa. Gathering afterward at the family’s home in Holualoa. Flowers welcome. Survived by husband, David Robert Hurst of Holualoa; daughters, Sara Drennan of Bellvue, Colo., Shelby Hurst and Haley Hurst of New Orleans; sons, Jason Hurst of Caledon, Ontario, Canada, and Rhylan Hurst of Lewiston, N.Y.; seven grandchildren. Tomie Miyashiro, 90, of Hawi died Sept. 10 at Hospice of Kona’s Nakamaru Hale. Born in Kohala, she was retired from Kohala Nursery and a member of Kohala Jodo Mission, Kohala Okinawa Kenjin Kai and Kohala Senior Citizens. Private services held. No flowers or koden (monetary gifts). Survived by daughters, Joan (Frank Jr.) Caravalho of Kohala, Aileen Lui Kwan of Oahu, Caroline (Bert) Imada of Honokaa and Cindy (Michael) Odo of Oahu; brother, Shotoku Nakasato of Kaneohe, Oahu; sister, Janet Shizuko Kimura of Sacramento, Calif.; nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Hajime Tanaka, 94, of Olaa died Sept. 17 at Hilo Medical Center. He was a retired civil engineer and landscaper and U.S. Army veteran. Private services held. Survived by wife, Jean Tanaka of Kurtistown; daughters, Kathryn Tanaka of Kurtistown and Karen Tanaka of Seattle; sister, Hatsume Tanaka of Keaau; brother-in-law, James Takakura; sisters-in-law, Teruko Smith and Nancy Tanaka; two nieces and three nephews.
