In partnership with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, the 2019 Hawai‘i Nei Art Contest Committee is hosting an informational presentation today (May 8) about Hakalau Forest National Wildlife Refuge and the upcoming T-shirt contest at Wailoa Center.
The presentation is scheduled from 10-11 a.m., but staff will be available to share refuge imagery and sounds, answer questions or provide technical support until 3 p.m. This talk is intended to provide ideas and inspiration for artists who have not visited the refuge.
Keep in mind, first-place selection will be featured on the new refuge T-shirt, while other submissions might be considered for future T-shirts, promotional items and media. Refuge staff are looking for original, two-dimensional submissions that translate well onto fabric such as paintings, drawings, digital drawing/paintings, relief prints, photographic sketches/paintings, etc.
Artwork is being accepted now through June 15, and can be submitted on the Hawaiʻi Nei website at www.hawaiineiartcontest.org/.
