Christina Eckman-Shumaker, 65, of Hilo died Jan. 24 at Life Care Center of Hilo. Born in Coos Bay, Ore., she was a homemaker. Survived by husband, Troy J. Shumaker; daughter, Hannah Long; a grandchild. Arrangements by Ballard Family Mortuary.

Rollin Lee Frost, 77, of Kailua-Kona died Jan. 1 at home. Born in Oakland, Calif., he was a safety and health Engineer, professional astrologer and U.S. Army veteran. Services at a later date at West Hawaii Veterans Cemetery. Survived by sons, James Knowles of Corvallis, Ore., Christopher Frost of Honolulu, Matthew Frost of Koloa, Kauai, and Michael Frost of Kailua-Kona; three grandchildren. Moses Enoka Heanu, 69, of Keaau died Jan. 20 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Honolulu, he was a retired machinist. Celebration of life gathering sunrise to sunset Saturday, April 6, at Kawaa Beach in Ka‘u. Casual attire. Survived by wife, Debra Heanu of South Carolina; sons, Kenji (Valerie) Heanu of Texas and David Heanu of Ocean View; daughter, Frances (Michael Mendoza) Heanu of Ocean View; brothers, Albert (Kathy) Heanu of Waipahu, Oahu, and Richard Heanu of Honolulu; sister, Eleanor (Dan) Vaughn of Hilo; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins. Sandra “Sandy” Louise Powers, 62, of Pahoa died Jan. 20 at Hawaii Care Choices Pohai Malama Care Center. Born in Santa Monica, Calif., she was a retired U.S. Customs officer, musician and French hornist in the Hawaii County Band and hiker. Private services. John “Smokey” Freitas Silva Jr., 90, of Hawaiian Beaches died Jan. 13 at Hawaii Care Choices Pohai Malama Care Center. Born in Paauilo, he was a retired Hawaii Army National Guard master sergeant, member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Young Men’s Institute, Association of Foresters Court Mauna Kea #8854, American Legion Hilo Post No. 3, Big Island National Guard Retirees Association and U.S. Army Vietnam era veteran. Services at a later date. Survived by wife, Patricia C. Silva of Hawaiian Beaches; sons, Paul A. (Madeline D.) Silva of Keaau and John W. (Theresa E.) Silva of Hawaiian Beaches; brother, Clarence E. (Shirley) Silva of Sacramento, Calif.; sister, Nellie A. (Joseph) Chaves of Sacramento; 10 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Felipe “Phillip” Lorenzo Valentin, 82, of Kailua-Kona died Jan. 23 at home. Born in Honolulu, he collected playing cards friends brought from their travels. Private services at a later date.
