The purpose of the United Nations Association-USA is to inform, inspire and mobilize people who live in the United States to support the principles and vital work of the United Nations and to strengthen the United Nations.
The United Nations is an international organization tasked to promote international cooperation and to create and maintain international order. A replacement for the ineffective League of Nations, the organization was established Oct. 24, 1945, after World War II in order to prevent another such conflict. It is made up of 193 member states (countries).
The Hawaii Island Chapter of the United Nations Association-USA takes part in many local activities, including co-sponsoring an international lecture series at the University of Hawaii at Hilo, participating in the Peace Parade and Festival in Honokaa, promoting the U.N. at the Hawaii Community College and UH-Hilo Earth Day Celebration and other events, and hosting its annual United Nations Day luncheon on Oct. 24.
Membership is available to any U.S. resident.

Membership rates are: $1,000 Lifetime (one-time dues payment), $500 Patron, $100 Sponsor, $50 Member, $25 Introductory or Limited Income and free for GenUN membership if 25 years old or younger.
