Hawaii Island AJA Veterans Legacy Association
The Hawaii Island AJA Veterans Legacy Association is offering up to two $1,000 scholarships to graduating seniors who plan to continue their post high school education this fall.
This is the inaugural launch of the annual scholarships by the nonprofit Hawaii Island organization dedicated to honoring and perpetuating the legacy of Americans of Japanese ancestry veterans during World War II.
Applicants must be a senior at any Hawaii Island public or private high school and must enroll full time at any accredited college or university in the state for the 2018-19 academic year, registering for 12 credits or more (online educational programs ineligible).
In addition to the application and other documents, an essay of no more than 1,000 words is required describing the significance and role of Americans of Japanese ancestry in the 100th Infantry Battalion, Military Intelligence Service or the 442nd Regimental Combat Team in World War II (focusing on a minimum of one) and their legacy.
Application forms and instructions are available at the counselor offices at Hawaii Island public and private high schools. The deadline for the 2018-19 scholarships is April 14; applications must be postmarked by this date.
East Hawaii Hiroshima Kenjin Kai
The East Hawaii Hiroshima Kenjin Kai is offering two $1,000 scholarships to graduating seniors who plan to continue their post high school education this fall.
Applicants must be a senior at any East Hawaii public or private high school and must enroll full time at any accredited college or university for the 2018-19 academic year, registering for 12 credits or more.
The applicant also must be a child or grandchild of an East Hawaii Hiroshima Kenjin Kai member in good standing (dues paid).
Application forms and instructions are available at the counselor offices at East Hawaii public and private high schools. The deadline for the 2018-19 scholarships is April 14; applications must be postmarked by this date.
Monsanto Hawaii Life Sciences
Applications are being accepted for Monsanto Hawaii’s Life Sciences Scholarship.
This scholarship is open to graduating seniors of all high schools in Hawaii who will be attending an accredited college or university to pursue a degree in a discipline related to the life sciences including agriculture, agronomy, biology, botany, genetics, horticulture, plant physiology, chemistry, crop science and soil science.
As many as 10 scholarships of $1,000 each will be awarded this year.
