Barbara Jean Alapai, 70, of Kahaluu, Kona, died Feb. 2 at Kona Community Hospital. Born in Honolulu, she was a housekeeper at the former Kona Surf Hotel and housewife. Visitation 9-10 a.m. Saturday, March 3, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Kealakekua. Memorial service at 10 a.m. Casual attire. Ellen Lalakea Green, 89, of Waimea, formerly of Kailua-Kona, died Feb. 16 at home. Born in Hilo, she retired after 30 years from Konawaena Elementary School and was a member of Kings Cathedral & Chapels in Honokaa. Celebration of life 10 a.m. Saturday, March 3 at the Puukapu farm lot, 64-840 Ainahua Alanui St. in Waimea. Service at 11 a.m. Luncheon to follow. Lei and flowers welcome. Arlene Mae Pereira Mayer, 79, of California died on Feb. 17 in Fountain Valley, Calif. Born and raised in Hilo, she was a retired paralegal and 1956 graduate of St Joseph’s High School. No services. Robert James Smart, 67, of Hilo died Jan. 2 at home. Born in Seattle, he was retired and a member of Polestar Gardens in Pahoa. Private services held.
