Born in Minneapolis, she was an affirmative action officer for the former Ramsey Hospital in St. Paul, Minn., worked for the Metropolitan Council in St. Paul and was a former board member of Bay Clinic. Miwako “Mix” Cooperrider, 88, of Kent, Ohio, died Jan. 6 at University Hospitals Portage Medical Center in Ravenna, Ohio. Born in Hilo, she was a retired director of Kent State University Herbarium, artist, member of Sigma Xi honorary scientific society and life member of The Nature Conservancy. Memorial service planned for May 20; details to be announced. Survived by husband, Tom Cooperrider of Kent; daughter, Julie (Clair Burns) Cooperrider of Seattle; son, John Cooperrider of Chicago; brother, Sadao (Betty) Kunimura of Cincinnati; sister-in-law, Sue Cooperrider of Tucson, Ariz.; a grandson; nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Janet Dykes Martin, 81, of Sequim, Wash., died Dec. 15 at home. Born in Hilo, she was a retired medical staff secretary for the former Hilo Hospital, accomplished swimmer, diver and baker, member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church and member, former chapter president and secretary of Women’s Philanthropic Educational Organization (PEO) and avid community volunteer. Celebration of life 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 3, at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Sequim. Refreshments to follow. No flowers.
