The Hawaii County Council passed a bill Thursday naming the Pahoa skate park after resident Ginny Aste.
Puna Councilwoman Eileen O’Hara, who introduced the measure, said the next tasks are organizing a ceremony — date to be determined — and crafting a sign. She said she’d like students at Hawaii Academy of Arts and Sciences to do the latter.
Aste is a longtime community advocate who was instrumental in the skate park’s creation a decade ago, O’Hara said.
During a previous council meeting, Aste said she’d like this to be the year of the skate park.
