Preliminary findings of an autopsy performed on the body of a person found Monday in the burned-out shell of a truck are “inconclusive” as to the cause of death, according to police.

Capt. Randall Medeiros of Hilo Criminal Investigation Division said police have not yet been able to positively identify the individual, who was found inside the truck on Kehaulani Street, a side street between 37th and 39th avenues near Kaloli Drive in Orchidland Estates subdivision. The gender has also not yet been determined.

Medeiros said “circumstances surrounding” the event lead police to believe foul play is involved.
