Mediation center hosting lunch talk
The nonprofit Ku‘ikahi Mediation Center is hosting a free talk from noon-1 p.m. today in the Office of the Prosecuting Attorney as part of its third Thursday of the month “Finding Solutions, Growing Peace” Brown Bag Lunch Series.
This month’s speaker is Evelyn Pacheco on the topic “Peace Begins at Home: Life Skills for Exploring Options.” Pacheco has been a professionally trained volunteer mediator with Ku‘ikahi since 1994, with a focus on divorce and/or child visitation cases.

Rat lungworm support available
Hilo Medical Center and Puna Community Medical Center announced the first two meetings for a rat lungworm disease support group at Neighborhood Place of Puna, 16-105 Opukahaia St. in Keaau.
The first meeting is at 4 p.m. Jan. 9, featuring members of the working group on the treatment of rat lungworm disease.
The second meeting is at 4 p.m. Feb. 13 with Dr. William Herrera, Hilo Medical Center neurologist.
The meetings are designed to support survivors of rat lungworm disease and their caregivers.
‘Love’ kicks off VAC concert series
“Almost Like Being in Love” is the theme of the first 2018 concerts at 4:30 and 7 p.m. Jan. 13 at the Volcano Art Center.
Vocalist Binti Bailey and her guitarist/synthesizer partner Larry Seyer will join Jean Pierre Thoma and the Jazztones for a collection of love songs from the world over. Join them for a swinging and mesmerizing evening of classic as well as unusual numbers.

HMSA completes 4-week food drive
Results are in from the annual HMSA holiday food drive.
This year, HMSA employees throughout the state collected a total of 1,886 pounds of food and $42,972.11 for Hawaii’s food banks.
Employees held bake sales, change collections and cross-departmental challenges in an effort to raise donations. The food drive took place during a four-week period. This year’s theme was “Hunger Games.”
HMSA has offices on Hawaii, Maui, Oahu and Kauai. All donations will stay in their respective communities.
