Terri Napeahi, a community activist focused on health and environmental issues, will run for state House District 2 in 2018 as a Democrat.
“My platform is basically health and safety,” said Napehahi, of Keaukaha. “What I really care about is health and safety of our people and also economic opportunities.”
Through her campaign, she said she also wants to increase voter participation in Keaukaha and Panaewa.
Napeahi’s organizations include the Keaukaha Action Network, which has raised concerns over wastewater discharge at Puhi Bay.
She’s also been trying to get air quality monitors for the community.
She is also vice president of the Pele Defense Fund and owns Papu Mu Native Hawaiian LLC, which sells Hawaiian food cooked with an imu.
The district covers parts of Hilo, Keaukaha, Panaewa and Waiakea. The seat is held by Rep. Chris Todd.
